Ronald Neame

Ronald Neame (1911-2010) was a British film director, screenwriter, cinematographer, film producer, and writer. He was born in London and held citizenship in the United Kingdom. Neame was educated at University College School and Hurstpierpoint College. He was the son of Ivy Close and the father of writer and producer Christopher Neame.

Neame directed numerous films throughout his career, including The Card, The Horse's Mouth, The Man Who Never Was, The Chalk Garden, I Could Go On Singing, Tunes of Glory, The Magic Box, The Poseidon Adventure, The Million Pound Note, A Man Could Get Killed, The Seventh Sin, Prudence and the Pill, Golden Salamander, Scrooge, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Escape from Zahrain, Mister Moses, Windom's Way, The Odessa File, Gambit, Meteor, Hopscotch, First Monday in October, Foreign Body, and The Magic Balloon.

Some of Neame's notable works include Brief Encounter, One of Our Aircraft Is Missing, King of the Castle, This Happy Breed, It's in the Air, Keep Fit, The Passionate Friends, The Crimes of Stephen Hawke, Second Thoughts, Trouble Brewing, Young Man's Fancy, Blithe Spirit, The Four Just Men, Drake of England, The Gaunt Stranger, Cheer Boys Cheer, Take My Life, Return to Yesterday, The Improper Duchess, Invitation to the Waltz, Penny Paradise, Music Hath Charms, Give Her a Ring, I See Ice, Who Goes Next?, Come On George!, Girls Will Be Boys, Cafe Colette, Feather Your Nest, The Ware Case, Let's Be Famous, A Star Fell from Heaven, Great Expectations, and Variety Hour. Additionally, he authored the screenplay for Brief Encounter.

Ronald Neame passed away on June 16, 2010, in Los Angeles.
