SAC Capital Advisors was a Stamford, Connecticut based private asset management firm. They began as a trading oriented investment firm but evolved into a multi-strategy, multi-disciplinary investment management firm. These investment strategies included fundamental and technical long/short equity portfolios, global quantitative strategies, fixed income and credit, global macro strategies, convertible bonds and emerging markets. They emphasized research and risk management in all of their investments.
SAC Capital Advisors made investments in StreamSearch LIVE, Net2Wireless, Color Kinetics, Incorporated, Nanosolar and Derivix.
They exited their investments in Derivix and Color Kinetics, Incorporated.
SAC Capital Advisors was founded in 1992 by Steven A. Cohen with $25 million in assets under management. By 2013, SAC Capital Advisors grew to have $14 billion in assets under management.
In 2013, the SEC brought insider trading charges against SAC Capital Advisors, who ultimately plead guilty to the charges, were fined $1.8 billion and officially closed.
