A STTR Phase I contract was awarded to Solstar Space Company in November, 2022 for $74,128.0 USD from the U.S. Department of Defense and United States Air Force.
Solstar’s Critical Data Relay Wide Band (CritDR-WB), aka Slayton, is a modular device that easily integrates into a satellite prior to launch, to provide wideband communications between that satellite and the ground, leveraging new commercial broadband satellite networks and newly available flat panel antennas to augment the current Space Force Satellite Control System (SPSCS). By using commercially-based Iridium/Telesat links, satellite constellation owners gain the ability to have near real time command and control over their vast fleet of orbital assets. Slayton revolutionizes in orbit communications by essentially offering the first ever commercial “WiFi” in space.
