Salt Security is a developer of an application programming interface designed to protect APIs that form the core of every modern application. The company's API Protection platform is a patented solution that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically and continuously identify and provide protection; it learns the granular behavior and requires no configuration or customization to pinpoint and block attackers. Salt Security was founded in 2016 by alumni of the Israeli Defense Forces.
The big data and artificial intelligence-based platform uses holistic detection architecture in order to discover all APIs of an organization and the data they use, pinpoint and stop attackers during reconnaissance, and work to eliminate any vulnerabilities in an API. The platform is intended to deploy quickly, automatically detect and learn about an organization's APIs, and is intended to require no configuration to be used.
Further, the platform works to collect all API traffic across an entire application landscape; it uses the AI and big data engine to scan that traffic for possible attacks or vulnerabilities. The AI uses this traffic and monitoring to baseline legitimate behavior in order to identify anomalous behavior and possible attackers in real time, during reconnaissance, and prevent those possible attacks from advancing. The platform also consolidates all activity into a single alert to avoid alert fatigue. The platform also uses attackers like pen testers to provide insight for development teams based on attacks and work to improve API security posture from those insights.
