Salvador de Madariaga (born July 23, 1886) was a Spanish citizen from A Coruña. He was a diplomat, historian, novelist, poet, engineer, writer, politician, journalist, academic, and essayist. He was educated at the Lycée Chaptal, the University of Oxford, Polytechnic School, and Mines ParisTech. Madariaga wrote poetry and sometimes used the pseudonym Julio Arceval. He was the founder of the College of Europe and was the father of Nieves Mathews. Madariaga died on December 14, 1978, in Muralto.
