Selman Waksman

Selman Waksman was born on July 22, 1888, in Kyiv . He held citizenship in the Russian Empire , Soviet Union , and the United States . Waksman was educated at the University of California, Berkeley . He worked as a physician, biologist, biochemist, microbiologist, and chemist .

During his career, Selman Waksman was awarded the 1952 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2005 . He passed away on August 16, 1973, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts .
