Sergey Nikolaevich Babkin was born on November 7, 1978 in the city of Kharkov.
The future artist graduated from the lyceum of arts No. 133 in his hometown and the music school No. 13, where he studied playing the flute. Having received a certificate, Sergey became a student of the theater department of the Kharkov University of Arts. In 2000 he became a certified actor of the theater of drama and cinema.
Babkin's father, Nikolai Mikhailovich, served in the Soviet army. He has the rank of retired lieutenant colonel. He worked at a military school. Mom Nina Pavlovna was a kindergarten teacher. Sergei has a brother Yuri (born 1972). He followed in his father's footsteps and became a soldier.
In 2005, Babkin married a girl named Lilia Rotan. In the same year, the couple had a son, Ilya. In 2007, the couple divorced. Lilia moved to live in Canada and took her son with her. Ilya does not maintain a relationship with his father.
In 2008, Sergei met actress Snezhana Vartanyan (born 1985), who came to play at the Theater 19 the same year. In the spring of 2009, Sergei and Snezhana registered a marriage. The following year, their daughter Veselina was born. In 2019, the second child of the couple was born - the boy Elisha. Snezhana has a son from his first marriage - Arthur (he bears the name of his stepfather).
Babkin's second wife plays in the Fine Flowers Theater and is her husband's art manager.
From a young age, in addition to music, Sergey was fond of drawing and dancing, went to a theater group, took an active part in school amateur performances, and played in KVN.
From the age of twelve, Babkin began learning to play the guitar. Then he wrote his first song. The novice musician was especially influenced by the work of the Bravo group and Valery Syutkin, and a little later by Vladimir Vysotsky.
Sergei began to earn his first money while still at school. He was a loader, washed the windows of cars at traffic lights, was an assistant to a combine harvester when harvesting wheat in the village with his grandmother.

While still a student, he hosted a program on Kharkov television, was a mime in a nightclub, and worked as a waiter in the summer. In his last year at the university, Sergei began playing at the Kharkov Drama Theater named after Pushkin. It was thanks to his work in the theater that he was not drafted into the army. According to the stories of the artist himself, the wife of the military commissar liked his performance in the theater and she said that she would leave him if Babkin was drafted into the army.
In addition to the Kharkov theater, Sergei tried to work on the stages of St. Petersburg. However, the young actor failed to gain a foothold there.
In 2000, together with a group of students of the Institute of Arts, Babkin became one of the founders of the Kharkov Theater-19. Sergey played in the performances "Emigrants", "Paul I", "Luboff", "I praise Julia!". In 2002, Babkin left the Pushkin Theater and focused on working at Theater-19, performances (Chmo, Doors, Our Hamlet) which were staged on the stage of the Kharkov House of Actors.

The first concert was given in a Kharkov club in front of an audience of ten people and earned a glass of beer. Then the musicians played several of their songs at the Mask club. When seventeen songs were accumulated in the repertoire of "5'NIZZA", Sergey and Andrey recorded their debut album.
In 2001, at the Kazantip festival, Babkin and Zaporozhets performed on the main stage, made acquaintances in a musical party. Thanks to the leader of the group "WK?" Eduard Shumeiko, the Kharkiv team moved to the Russian capital, where they played in small clubs.
In Moscow, "5'NIZZA" began to gain popularity. If in 2002 up to a hundred listeners came to their performances, then next year their number increased tenfold. In Russia, the duo re-recorded the first album.
After that, the songs of "5'NIZZA" appeared on the radio, and the guys themselves became recognizable musicians. Following Russia, Babkin and Zaporozhets went with performances to far abroad countries. In 2005, Sergey and Andrey released another album - "O5". By this time, they managed to star in four videos. In the summer of 2007, the duo gave their last concert. After that, the musicians announced the end of their collaboration.
The style of the duet "5'NIZZA" is a mix of such styles as reggae, rap, funk, rock, ska. They performed mostly songs in Russian, sometimes in Ukrainian. Together with another Kharkov group TNMK, Babkin and Zaporozhets, after the collapse of the duet, recorded a song in French - “ En Automne ”.
For the next eight years, Babkin and Zaporozhets built their careers separately. But in 2015 they reunited and recorded two tracks ("I Believe In You" and "Forward"). Two years later, their third studio work, which was called "KU", saw the light. In support of the album, "5'NIZZA" held a concert tour.
Back in 2004, Babkin released the URA album together with clarinetist Sergei Savenko. The following year, their second joint work appeared - "BIS!". In the same year, another album was released - "Son", which was recorded together with pianist Efim Chupakhin.
In 2007, two Sergeys, Efim and bass guitarist Igor Fadeev create the Motor album. A year later, Babkin recorded two albums with different musicians at once - Amen.ru and Vzblatnulos. Over the next ten years, five more studio works by Babkin saw the light, one of them, Sergeevna, is dedicated to his daughter Vesselina.
In 2011, Sergey joined Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, as well as Dmitry Shurov, Max Malyshev and Petr Chernyavsky in the Brussels project. In the same year, the self-titled album appeared, and in 2012 the artists held a musical tour.
In 2018, Sergey tried his hand at the Ukrainian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. However, he did not advance beyond the semi-finals.
The artist announced the release of the new album "Cosmotato" for February 2022, and in the spring he will go on a new concert tour.
In 2005, Babkin played a cameo role in the feature film "Russian". Then he took part in the filming of the film "The Phenomenon".
Two years later, Sergei made a cameo appearance in the comedy Radio Day . In 2009, he starred in the phantasmagoric drama "Rejection" and appeared in an episode of the film "First Love". In 2013, the artist played a gravedigger in the comedy How to Get a Woman and a Mafia player in the movie Happy End.
In 2014, Sergey and Snezhana Babkin played young Alexander Dovzhenko and his wife Yulia Solntseva in the documentary film Alexander Dovzhenko. Odessa dawn. In 2017-2018, Sergey was a mentor in the seventh and eighth seasons of the Voice of the Country vocal television show. His ward Alena Lutsenko won the show of the eighth season. Also in 2017, Sergey, together with Snezhana, became a participant in the fourth season of the dance show "Dances with Stars". The couple finished in fifth place.
In 2021, Sergey became a coach/judge for the seventh and eighth seasons of the Liga Smikhu humor festival.
After the reunion of the duet "5'NIZZA" in 2015, Sergey and Andrey decided to go on tour not only in Ukraine, but in Russia and even the last occupied Crimea. In Moscow, the musicians gave an interview to the Russian propaganda channel LifeNews.
Babkin and Zaporozhets talked only about music, creative plans and a new album. But in Ukraine, the artists were convicted for performing in front of the occupiers.
Later, Sergei made excuses that he did not know about the reputation of LifeNews.
“I serve people who can hear and change. I don’t give concerts in the Kremlin, I don’t play corporate parties for Russian oligarchs, ” Babkin explained .
In October 2017, activists disrupted Sergei's concert in Lvov due to his performances in Crimea and Russia. They did not allow the audience to enter the concert. The police intervened in the situation, after which skirmishes began between law enforcement officers and activists. In the end, the concert never took place.
On Facebook, the artist wrote that during his performances in Russia, tens of thousands of Russians sang songs in Ukrainian. What Babkin himself regards as a victory for Ukraine. Sergey also wrote that he donates part of the fee earned in Russia to the ATO zone and orphanages.
