Sergei Parajanov was an Armenian-Ukrainian film director, screenwriter, editor, painter, and artist. Born in Tbilisi on January 9, 1924, he held citizenship in the Soviet Union. Parajanov was educated at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography.
He directed notable films such as "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" and "The Color of Pomegranates", and authored works including "Pieta," "Portrait of Daniel Olbrychski," and "Repentance.Variation on themes by Pinturicchio and Raphael (dedicated to Vasily Katanyan)". Parajanov's artistic style encompassed pop art, naïve art, Neo-Dada, and collage.
Sergei Parajanov founded the company Sixtiers and was based in Yerevan. He passed away in Yerevan on July 20, 1990.
