Biography
Russian fighter Sergey Khandozhko has a reputation as a real hard worker with a powerful inner core. He is not afraid of defeats and superstitions, because he considers all signs to be tricks of the human brain. Few people know that an athlete feels the world very subtly and writes poetry.
Childhood and youth
The biography of Sergei Sergeyevich Khandozhko began on May 19, 1992 in the Tver region. The future athlete was born in Torzhok in a military family and from an early age dreamed of achieving success in life, but he did not think about a fighting career.
A special trace in Sergei's memory was left by an episode from his childhood. His birthday was approaching, and he asked for a T-shirt with the name of Alexander Kerzhakov on the back. In response, his mother advised him not to chase famous personalities and set a goal for himself to become an idol in the eyes of boys.
Sergey Khandozhko's sports career began early: at the age of seven, he began practicing sambo and judo. Under the guidance of coach Nikolai Vorobyov, the first victories at city and district competitions came to him, but over time he lost interest in classes.
The reason for returning to martial arts was an illness: in a military camp, Sergei fell ill with jaundice and recovered his health for a long time. Then he realized that he could no longer live without sports. At the age of 15, the guy came to the hand-to-hand combat section, where his fateful acquaintance with the karate coach Alexander Zhokin took place. The mentor was an enthusiastic person, knew how to ignite a passion for training and motivate to come to classes.
Despite the fact that Khandozhko came to karate relatively late, he was able to achieve almost incredible things at a rapid pace. Since the age of 16, a boy from a small town in the Tver region has already been considered a promising athlete: he has repeatedly won the championships of Moscow and Russia, while not having the appropriate belt.
However, Sergey's interests were not limited to sports. He loved to read since childhood and was an excellent student until the ninth grade. At the age of 17, Khandozhko moved to Odintsovo, near Moscow, where his father was given an apartment. There he became interested in hand-to-hand combat and after two months of training won the first competitions in this discipline.
After graduation, the graduate wanted to connect his life with law enforcement service and chose the Academy of Economic Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Hand - to - hand combat
Before becoming a mixed martial arts fighter, Khandozhko managed to reach heights in hand-to-hand combat. With his victories in serious competitions, he earned authority among his rivals.
At the age of 18, Sergey became the world champion in universal combat, and a year later he added a scattering of awards to the piggy bank: gold of the European championship and the world championship, silver of the national championship and the Armed Forces Cup in army hand-to-hand combat. In addition, Khandozhko won a bronze medal at the Moscow Open ARB Championship.
The list of achievements of the Torzhok native includes the title of master of sports in ashihara karate, universal combat and ARB, as well as a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Mixed martial arts
The world champion in universal combat began his career in mixed martial arts in 2011. His debut took place in a duel against Dmitry Lopatin, whom he knocked out in the first round.
After the first fights, it became obvious that Khandozhko is a pronounced knockout with a great punch. The series of early victories continued in subsequent fights. The winless streak of the Russian welterweight (height 185 cm, weight 77 kg) was interrupted by a draw with Anton Kotyukov in 2012.
Khandozhko suffered his first defeat in his career in the spring of 2013, losing to Eduard Vartanyan in a duel at the Legend tournament.
