Sergei Generalov was born in 1963 in Simferopol .
In 1980, he graduated from the Bolshevsky Secondary School No. 2, a little short of reaching the gold medal.
In 1986 he graduated from MPEI , in 1991 - postgraduate study of this institute. In 1986 - 1988 he worked as an engineer at MPEI.
In 1991 - 1992 - commercial director of the research and production enterprise Firma Tet. In 1992 - 1993 - Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Oil Investment and Production Bank (Nipebank). In 1993 - head of the department for work with clients of Promradtekhbank. Since 1993, he worked at Yukos as Executive Director for Economics and Finance, then Vice President for Finance and Securities, and Senior Vice President. In 1997 , he became deputy chairman of the board of the Menatep bank and a member of the joint board of the Rosprom-Yukos group.
From April 1998 to May 1999 - Minister of Fuel and Energy of Russia. In 1999 he headed the Center for Strategic Research in the Fuel and Energy Complex . From December 1999 to December 2003 - Deputy of the State Duma from the Krasnoyarsk Territory , was a member of the SPS faction .
Since 2004 , he has been the head of the Industrial Investors group, being also the main beneficiary of the enterprises included in it.
In December 2008, the board of directors of the Far Eastern Shipping Company elected Generalov as its chairman.
