Chinese-born american mathematician
Shing-Tung Yau is a mathematician, professor, and scientist born on April 4, 1949, in Shantou. He holds citizenship in the United States and British Hong Kong. Yau received his education at various institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Chung Chi College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, and his Doctor of Philosophy was supervised by Shiing-Shen Chern.
Throughout his career, Yau has advised several doctoral students, such as Christine Taylor, Richard Schoen, Gang Tian, and Huai-Dong Cao, among others. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Fields Medal in 1982.
