Since June 2014, Shishir Mehrotra has served as the co-founder and CEO of Coda, a document collaboration platform. He served as strategic advisor to the CEO from December 2015 to May 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2011, Mehrotra served as vice president of product and engineering at Youtube/Video at Google Inc.
In 2008, he served as a director of product management for Google TV Ads and YouTube Ads at Google Inc. He also served as director of program management at Microsoft in 2002. Mehrotra served as the CEO of Centrata, Inc. He has held positions at the W3C, Taurus, Telysys and the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Since July 23, 2013, he has been a Director of Victorious, Inc. and he served as a Director of INVIDI Technologies Corporation.
In an interview with the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Centre, Mehrotra said:
We started Coda with a simple observation: in a world full of apps and specialized workplace tools, why do all the teams we see still seem to run on documents and spreadsheets? And given that shift, why haven’t docs and spreadsheets been fundamentally updated since the 1970s? We decided to start from scratch and build a brand new doc that is customizable to meet every team’s needs.
Mehrotra is an angel investor and has invested in different startups. On June 2, 2021, he made a $20 million investment in a Series A round of funding for a company called Pinwheel. In January 2021, he invested $30 million in a Series B round of funding for Descript. In 2020, he invested several millions in WeWalk, Docugmi, Planet-Scale, and earlier in cure. fit, Latent Space, Highfive, Bento Labs, and Lightbox.
