Shohei Imamura (1926-2006) was a Japanese film director, screenwriter, film producer, and teacher. He was born on September 15th, 1926 in Tokyo, Japan and passed away on May 30th, 2006, also in Tokyo. Imamura, also known by the alias いまむら しょうへい, studied at Waseda University and later founded the Japan Institute of the Moving Image.
