Sigismund II Augustus was born on August 1, 1520, in Kraków. He was a statesman and held citizenship in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Sigismund II was the child of several notable figures, including Bona Sforza, Sigismund I the Old, Casimir IV Jagiellon, and Augusta Marie of Holstein-Gottorp. His father was Sigismund I the Old.
During his lifetime, Sigismund II Augustus founded the city of Augustów and the postal service company Poczta Polska. He passed away on July 7, 1572, in Knyszyn.
