Sol Cuisine is a Canadian food company headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, that was founded in 1980 Dror Balshine. The company is making a variety of meat alternative food products that are vegetarian/vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, free of trans fats, organic, and certified kosher and halal. Sol in Sol cuisine stands for "Sustainable, Organic, and Local".
Ingredients used by Sol Cuisine are sourced from primarily from North American farms, and all of their soya products are made using soybeans that are certified organically grown in Ontario. Since 1986, Sol cuisine has been using organic, local, and non-GMO soybeans for its soya products, and was the first organic tofu manufacturer in Canada.
Sol Cuisine began its SOLocal Protein project in 2014 with support from the Greenbelt Fund, a non-profit organization supporting sustainable agriculture in Ontario's Greenbelt, and the government of Ontario. The partnership seeks to build relationships between foodservice providers and public sector institutions to increase the sale of Ontario organic tofu. The SOLocal Protein project had a total of $59,000 in funding.
