Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2's gameplay involves player-versus-player (PvP) competition in which players use ink-based weapons to hit enemies and cover the arena in their team's color to control territory. The game also features a player-versus-environment (PvE), single-player campaign, and cooperative modes.

The player's main objectives in the game are split between fighting enemies and covering the combat environment in ink. Splatoon 2 features a selection of weapons that vary in utility, including an oversizeoversized paint roller and a bucket, which are optimized for dousing large areas of the map in ink. Conversely, other weapons are superior at direct PvP combat.

The player assumes the role of a Squid Kid, partKid—part child, part squid. The base player form is that of a child, and the squid form can be activated by holding the ZL button on the back of the Joy-Con Switch controller.

Players can unlock secondary abilities by participating repeatedly in battles with certain items equipped. These items change the player's appearance and provide bonuses in combat. The bonuses range from general effects, such as ink recovery rates, to more specialized abilities, such as tracking an enemy after being struck by them. Equipment can be purchased with currency earned in battles and will randomly generate abilities tied to it. If the generated traits are not desired by players, they can be erased and replaced with other traits.

The cooperative Salmon Run mode puts up to four players up against three timed waves of enemies and tasks players with collecting golden eggs from boss creatures and depositing them in a basket. The mode utilizes Splatoon’s ink and territory mechanics as players must maintain control of the ground against enemies trying to stifle their movement.
