Splinterlands is a Pennsylvania-based company that has developed a blockchain-based trading card game. It is a play-to-earn game and has a reported 350,000 daily users. It was founded in 2018 and has raised more than $3,000,000 in funding from investors such as Polygon, Mask Network, and New Tribe Capital.
The game is a play-to-earn trading card game. There are two types of cards: Summoners and Monsters. A Summoner is a magic user who possesses one of six primal forces which can be used to summon monsters. A monster is any person or creature that is called forth by a Summoner to partake in battle. Each card contains specific information about the character it represents. By looking at the card, players can see the name of the character, its experience and stats, its abilities, and more. Players must be strategic on the battlefield and carefully choose which cards they want to use and where.
In May 2022, the makers of the game had a node license sale of Splintershards (SPS) validator node software that sold out in 11 minutes. 2000 node licenses were sold and allow for those who buy them to earn a portion of the 3,750,000 SPS per month. Having more SPS gives the owner more SPS tokens, which allows them to earn more rewards.
