Stephen Cole Kleene (born January 5, 1909 in Hartford, Connecticut, and died January 25, 1994 in Madison, Wisconsin) was a United States citizen known as a mathematician, computer scientist, and philosopher. Kleene was educated at Amherst College and Princeton University.
His doctoral advisor at Princeton was Alonzo Church. Some of Kleene's notable doctoral students include Yiannis N. Moschovakis, Dick de Jongh, Douglas Clarke, Nels David Nelson, Robert Lee Constable, and Joan Moschovakis.
