Stephen Cook (born December 14, 1939) is an American computer scientist and mathematician . He was born as Stephen Arthur Cook in Buffalo, New York. Cook holds citizenship in the United States and is currently based in Canada.
Cook is a highly educated individual, having studied at both Harvard University and the University of Michigan. Throughout his career, he has held various roles, including being a computer scientist, mathematician, and investor.
As a professor, Cook has had several doctoral students, including Walter Savitch, Daniel Brand, James Hoover, Toniann Pitassi, Anna Lubiw, Mark Braverman, and Arvind Gupta. His own doctoral advisor was Hao Wang.
In recognition of his achievements, Cook received the prestigious Turing Award in 1982. He is also a father to his child, Gordon Cook.
