Stephen David Daldry , born on May 2, 1960 , in Dorset, United Kingdom , is a film director, theatre director, film producer, and television director. He is known for directing films such as "Billy Elliot", "The Hours", and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close", as well as working on the television series "The Crown".
Daldry was educated at the University of Sheffield, the University of Essex, and the East 15 Acting School. He has received numerous awards, including the Golden Globe Awards, the Directors Guild of America Award, the BAFTA Award, the Primetime Emmy Award, and the Berlin International Film Festival Award. Some of his other film and television works include directing "The Reader", and creating the film adaptation of "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close".
