American actor.
He was born December 2, 1956 in Havana, Cuba, in the family of an airline employee and a schoolteacher.
Real name - Esteban Ernesto Echevarria.
In 1960 with parents emigrated to the U.S.. Grew up in Miami, Florida.
Graduated from Coral Park High School in 1974. Studied drama at the University of Miami. Attended Stella Adler's Theater School. Made his debut on the Off-Broadway stage under the pseudonym of Rocky Echevarria.
Since 1977, starred in television series. Took the pseudonym of Stephen Bauer, used the last name of his maternal grandmother, a German Jewess.
He became famous for his role as Manolo Rivera in the thriller film "Scarface" (1983 Golden Globe Award).
Important film roles - John Pinero in "Primal Fear" (1996), Carlos Ayala in the film "Traffic" (2000).
Stephen Bauer has worked extensively in low-budget movies, B-movies and TV series.
