SynBio Canada

SynBio Canada is a student and postdoc-lead advocacy and outreach group. Synbio Canada's projects are aimed at organizing and strengthening the Canadian synthetic biology community through a dedicated website and implementation of discussion groups and workshops. SynBio Canada explains the latest research and hosts profiles for researchers, companies and iGEM teams.

Synbio Canada activities are done on a volunteer basis. In addition to the website, the organization has a dedicated space for Synbio community members such as labs, companies or iGEM teams to interact with each other. A billboard of job postings are planned for the website. Community Officers plan events and bring the latest news from the University that they represent.

The president of the organization is Benjamin Scott, who graduated with a PhD from University of Toronto and as of 2019 is a postdoctoral associate at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). His research is focused on developing new drug discovery platforms and cell-based therapies through engineering cellular signaling.
