TAXA Biotechnologies is a company that genetically engineers home plants to help grow them quicker. The company was founded by Anthony Evans, in 2012, in San Francisco, California, United States.
The company has developed a platform that they offer to other companies to develop their own engineered plants. Their platform comes with access service fees and TAXA Biotechnologies takes royalties from the sales of final products created using the platform.
The company has created synthetic biology projects that have produced them their Glowing Plant, and developed a Fragrant Moss.
The fragrant moss was scented to smell like patchouli, and would fit in a small terrariums. The moss cost $50 to $80 per sale, but eventually couldn't be sold after the realization that the moss was contaminated. This ended up stopping TAXA's campaign to create plants that can glow as well as the scented moss. Evans, the founder received controversy over the bio-engineering campaign, and eventually had to stop the project after four years.
