TL Biolabs is an agricultural biology company providing genotyping for livestock that was founded in 2016 by Fred Turner and Sam Parlett in Santa Clara, California. The company's genetic tests cost $15 and use a proprietary microarray technology. TL Biolabs also offers a cloud-based herd management software platform. The company is now re-branded as Shield Bio and is focused on using DNA sequencing technology to help prevent antibiotic resistance.
On August 23, 2016 TL Biolabs announced raising an undisclosed amount of seed funding from SGH Capital.
On February 23, 2017 TL Biolabs announced raising $4 million in their second seed funding round from Andreessen Horowitz (lead investor), Refactor Capital, Y Combinator, and Josh Buckley.
