Telemedicine is a term referring to the delivery of remote patient care where the patient and healthcare provider are not in the same physical location. There are three primary sub-categories of telemedicine which include: interactive medicine, store and forward, and remote patients monitoring. Interactive medicine allows patients and healthcare providers to communicate with each other while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Store and forward telemedicine is when healthcare provider sharing patient information with another healthcare provider in a different location. Remote patient monitoring involves the remote monitoring of patients by medical professionals through the use of technology such as blood sugar or blood pressure monitoring.
