The Alpha-1 Project is a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary of the Alpha-1 Foundation. They are focused on providing funding for the commercialization of therapies for the elimination of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and liver disease caused by Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
The Alpha-1 Project is initially focused on the search for small molecules and chaperones to correct the defect in cellular alpha-1 antitrypsin trafficking and polymerization, development of new molecules with anti-elastase activity and gene or stem cell therapies. They offer access to the Alpha-1 Research Registry database and The Alpha-1 Foundation DNA and Tissue Bank to companies they work with.
The Alpha-1 Project has invested in Apic Bio, during Apic Bio's August 2017 Seed Round.
