The Y Startup Index is an organization that was formed to connect angel investors who graduated from Yale University (Yale) with startups that are founded by Yale students, alumni, or faculty. All parties involved are connected with Yale University, but the organization is not considered an official affiliate of the university. The Y Startup Index is based out of Connecticut, as is the university.
According to the organization's website, the Y Startup Index was started when the founders identified friction for startup founders who are alumni from Yale regarding accessing resources, advice, mentorship, and funds to aid them with running a successful startup. Yale has a large network of alumni who could offer those resources and funds, and the Y Startup Index was founded to make those connections between startup founders and angel investors/mentors.
The Y Startup Index is structured so the carry from the fund (which usually goes to the fund manager) is donated to nonprofits and other organizations that are also contributing to the growth of the Yale startup community.
