Thelonious Monk was an American pianist, musician, and composer. He was born on October 10, 1917, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and passed away on February 17, 1982, in Weehawken, New Jersey. Monk was a citizen of the United States.
Known for his birth name, Thelonious Sphere Monk, he was the father of T. S. Monk. Thelonious Monk's education included attending Stuyvesant High School and the Juilliard School. His genres included jazz, bebop, stride music, hard bop, and cool jazz.
Monk received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
