Theodor W. Adorno (born September 11, 1903) was a philosopher, composer, pianist, writer, musicologist, music critic, and sociologist. He held citizenship in the United States, Germany, and England. Born in Frankfurt, Adorno studied at Merton College, Oxford and Goethe University Frankfurt.
Hans Cornelius served as his doctoral advisor, and Adorno mentored doctoral student Alfred Schmidt, a fellow philosopher. Adorno's work primarily focused on classical music, with notable works such as Minima Moralia, Dialectic of Enlightenment, The Authoritarian Personality, Negative Dialectics, and Aesthetic Theory. He passed away on August 6, 1969, in Visp.
