Thycotic was founded in 1996 in the UK by Jonathan Cogley as Thycotic Software LLC, and began as an independent consulting firm. In 2000, Cogley closed the UK corporation and re-incorporated in Delaware as Thycotic Software Ltd.
In mid-2017, it was announced that Adelaide-based emt Distribution had partnered with Thycotic to become it's distributor across the Asia-Pacific region.
Secret Server is an encrypted web-based repository that stores privileged accounts. It organizes credentials into folders and applies access controls. The first version of Secret Server was released in 2005.
Secret Server is currently available in three editions; Vault, Professional and Platinum.
Privilege manager is an application control solution that removes local administrative rights from endpoints. The first windows version of the software was announced in late 2016.Cloud-focused companies that rely on Azure Active Directory to manage identities can also integrate with Privilege Manager for authentication, resource targeting and context-based policies. Security for Macs was added in 2017.
On February 23, 2016 Thycotic announced the acquisition of Windows endpoint security and application control software company Arellia.
In 2016, Thycotic Ranked #2,260 on Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 5000’s fastest-growing private companies list. Later that year, the company ranked #18 on CyberSecurity Ventures List of the Top 500 IT Security Companies.
In late 2016, Thycotic acquired security monitoring company Cyber Algorithms for an undisclosed amount.
In late 2018, Thycotic was ranked number 436 in the list of fastest growing companies in Deloitte's 2018 Technology Fast 500.
