Toshiro Mifune (1 April 1920 – 24 December 1997) was a Japanese actor, film producer, and film director. Born in Qingdao and holding Japanese citizenship, Mifune was also known by the aliases みふね としろう and the nicknames "The Shogun" and "The Wolf".
Toshiro Mifune is best known for his 16-film collaboration with director Akira Kurosawa, including notable works such as Rashomon, Seven Samurai, The Hidden Fortress, Throne of Blood, and Yojimbo. Some of his other prominent films include Drunken Angel, Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto, and Snow Trail.
Throughout his career, Mifune received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year, Online Film & Television Association, Blue Ribbon Awards, Fotogramas de Plata, Kinema Junpo Awards, Mainichi Film Awards, Montreal World Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and a star on the Walk of Fame. Toshiro Mifune passed away in Tokyo on December 24, 1997.
