BioLite® is made up of materials that mix bast-fiber plants like hemp with thermoplastics to form granulates for injection molding. Consumer products made with BioLite can trace ingredients to European farms. BioLite granulates are used in standard injection molding machines, where no new machinery is needed. BioLite applies to vehicle components, clothing hangers, luggage, kitchen containers, and cosmetic packaging. Using BioLite replaces non-renewable feedstocks like petroleum derivatives, glass fiber, or chalk with plants that soak up carbon. BioLite is more environmentally friendly because it sequesters carbon, replaces factory-made ingredients, produces nearer to home, is lighter, and fully recyclable. BioLite can also be processed at a lower temperature, which means that the energy consumption and cycle times can be reduced in manufacturing lines.
Trifilon Switch® is made up of hemp fiber-reinforced biocomposites whose resins are starch-based PLA, made from responsibly-grown sugarcane and beetroot among other plants. All of its main ingredients come from agricultural products. The product is also compostable. Trifilon Switch is a plastic that comes from plants and disappears after use.
Unlike many compostable bio-materials, Trifilon Switch can be used in conventional injection molding machines and does not require special tooling or equipment. The product applies to mobile phone cases, sunglasses, lighting fixtures & armatures, and toys & other child products. Switch is made from organic feedstocks, thereby using it means taking a step towards a sustainable economy.
Trifilon upcycles recycled plastics. Trifilon uses an existing, consistent source of plastic from a European stream and reinforces it with hemp fibers. The hemp sequesters carbon (takes carbon from the air to form its cells during growth), and the carbon calculations for using Trifilon Revo can make it appear as if creating a plastic component takes carbon from the air.
