Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional verification step to a login process. 2FA increases security by combining two separate pieces of information, usually a password and a secondary factor. The second factor could come from a variety of verification methods, including a personal identification number (PIN), answers to “secret questions”, a specific keystroke pattern, a credit card, a smartphone, a small hardware token, a biometric pattern of a fingerprint, an iris scan, or a voice print.
