Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method that includes collecting operational data from a plurality of premises devices over a satellite service provider network for subscribers of the satellite provider network, wherein the operational data includes premises device data for each premises device of a subscriber, detecting an error indication in premises device data of one of the plurality of premises devices, determining a mitigation action to the error indication in the premises device data for the one of the plurality of premises devices, determining if the error indication in the operational data is indicative of a system wide problem for a type of equipment of the one of the plurality of premises devices, and updating the type of equipment across the satellite provider network with the mitigation action responsive to determining that the error is indicative of the system wide problem.
