An information handling system peripheral keyboard sized to rest on an information handling display has integrated anchor magnets disposed at opposing sides and aligned to attract to detent magnets integrated under the information handling system display to selectively hold the keyboard in a forward and a rearward position. A magnetic guide rail disposed between the detent magnets provide magnetic forces that guide the keyboard during a sliding motion between forward and rearward positions. For instance, each magnetic guide rail has a central row of magnets opposite the polarity of the keyboard anchor magnets surrounded by two rows of magnets having the polarity of the keyboard anchor magnets so that the magnetic guide rails bias the keyboard to slide in a parallel relationship to the front and rear sides of the display.
