In one example embodiment, a method includes receiving a plurality of user events based on a user interacting with a system, determining a cognitive operating mode of the user based on the user events, with the cognitive operating mode selected from a predefined set of cognitive operating modes, and modifying a user interface element according to the cognitive operating mode of the user.
