Various embodiments of collapsible canopies for chairs and other objects are described, which have a sheet of material coupled to a frame that when expanded creates the canopy. The frame preferably comprises first and second support pieces that can be coupled together at opposite ends. Each of the support pieces can comprises two or more struts that are hingedly coupled in series, such that the at least two struts can pivot or move about a hinge from (i) a collapsed configuration where one of the struts is stacked on top of the other strut to (ii) an expanded configuration where the at least two struts extend in opposite directions from the hinge.
