One example solution includes receiving, by a positioning server, at least one positioning request sent by a core network device, where the positioning request includes an identifier of user equipment (UE) and an identifier of a serving cell of the UE. The positioning server can then send at least one piece of positioning assistance data to a base station based on the at least one positioning request.
