The ceramic cup is surrounded by a housing which has a mouthpiece at its distal end opposite the base. A biased press plate is configured to push down on material within the ceramic cup. A heating element within the base abuts the ceramic cup. The temperature within the ceramic cup may be attenuated. The ceramic cup and the housing defined and insulating air pocket. An air pocket in the bottom of the ceramic cup separates a vaporizing chamber from the hottest region of the vaporizing cup and heats incoming air.
