Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment or a base station may determine that a condition for entering a reduced monitoring state is satisfied, wherein the reduced monitoring state uses at least one of: a diminished radio frequency chain configuration, a diminished channel monitoring configuration, a restriction on receiving or transmitting a shared channel or a control channel, or a combination thereof; and communicate using the reduced monitoring state.
