The machine instructions when executed by the computer implement the following functions. The functions include receiving identifying data indicative of digital video data. The functions further include transmitting a digital video alarm status query. The functions also include receiving a digital video alarm monitoring status in response to transmitting the digital video alarm monitoring status query. The digital video alarm monitoring status may include an active status and an inactive status. The functions may further include transmitting or analyzing the digital video data in response to the digital video alarm status being the active status.
