A method in a virtual private network (VPN) environment, the method including receiving, by a processor, a connection request from a user device for obtaining VPN services; determining, by the processor based at least in part on receiving the connection request, custom headers including a timing header, an authorization header, a digest header, and a signature header; transmitting, by the processor to the user device, a response including the custom headers and a payload indicating a VPN server associated with obtaining the VPN services; and configuring, by the processor, the VPN server to provide the VPN services to the user device.
