A light-emitting beacon comprising a printed circuit board assembly arranged between a carapace and a battery such that a first surface of the assembly faces the battery and a second surface of the assembly faces the carapace is disclosed. The circuit board assembly comprises LEDs arranged on the second surface wherein a first of the LEDs emits a first light visible from a first lateral side of the carapace and a second of the LEDs emits a second light visible from a second lateral side of the carapace. There is also disclosed a beacon comprising an LED activated in response to light sensed by at least one of a plurality of photosensors arranged on the second outer surface. One of the photosensors senses light shining on a first lateral side of the carapace and another of the photosensors senses light shining on a second lateral side of the carapace.
