A self propelled industrial machine includes a self propelled vehicle body, a transmission installed in the self propelled vehicle body, an operator presence detection switch and a control unit. The operator presence detection switch is provided to generate an operator presence or absence signal relating to an operator on a seat arranged on the self propelled vehicle body. The control unit is provided to set the transmission to a neutral state in response to the operator absence signal.
