The techniques include interacting with a user to identify one or more straight lines in a first rendering of a user interface for a software application, the straight lines being diagnostic of the correct layout of the first rendering of the user interface, and using the one or more straight lines as reference lines to determine if a second rendering of the user interface has a correct layout.
