A method and system for providing customized filters to restrict datasets retrieved from a database are described. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a data access query that combines a structured query language (SQL) statement with output related characteristics of an output data chart. The data access query is provided by a first user. The method further includes building the output data chart for a second user using the data access query.
