The first electrical voltage source (20) is formed of a first thermoelectric element (25), and a third voltage output (60) is provided, coupled to the first voltage output (30) and the second voltage output (50). A method is disclosed for the conversion of thermal energy into electrical energy, in which electrical voltage is generated by a first thermoelectric element (25), and where voltage is generated at least some of the time by means of a second voltage source (40), and where, by means of a converter circuit (150), the electric voltage from the first thermoelectric element (25) is converted to a higher voltage level.
