The locking pliers includes a fixed portion, a movable portion, a first apparatus for moving the movable portion relative to the fixed portion a desired amount in order to clamp a workpiece using only one hand, and a second apparatus for releasing the movable portion from the fixed portion in order to release the workpiece using only the one hand. The movable portion is movably connected to the fixed portion. The first apparatus is operatively connected to the fixed portion. The second apparatus is operatively connected to the movable portion.
