A computer-implemented method may include 1) maintaining an application virtualization subsystem on a computing system having a base file system and base registry of a base operating system, 2) installing an application and/or data to a virtualization layer on the computing system without changing the base file system and/or base registry such that the virtualization layer is isolated from the base file system and/or base registry, 3) identifying a current geographical location of the computing system, and 4) determining, based on the current geographical location of the computing system, whether the virtualization layer should be enabled such that access attempts associated with the application and/or data are redirected to the virtualization layer or should be disabled such that access attempts associated with the application and/or data are allowed to pass through to the base file system and/or base registry.
