The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is a subsidiary of the United Nations, founded on January 1, 1945. It is headquartered in the Headquarters of the United Nations, located in New York City. The official name of the organization is United Nations Economic and Social Council, while its short name is ECOSOC.
ECOSOC has several subsidiaries, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, World Health Organization, United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, Food and Agriculture Organization.
ECOSOC is also the parent organization for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. The organization is the founder of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and UNESCO.
